Abstract
Plasmonic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) of anisotropic geometries are being increasingly explored in advanced functional nanointerfaces. Here, Ag nanocubes were synthesized using bioinspired and frugal approach with the use of proteins extracted from sesame oil seed cakes and UV-exposure methodology. The protein functions as both the reducing and capping agent via photo-induced electron transfer mechanism. The obtained AgNPs were evaluated in surface plasmon-coupled emission (SPCE) platform in different functional nanointerfaces. The augmented emission was utilized for cellphone-based femtomolar sensing of SPCE reporter molecule, rhodamine B (RhB). The user-eco-friendly approach developed here would be of utility for biosensing in resource-scarce settings.
