Abstract
In the laptop cooling application, the available space for the cooling device is the main constraint. The conventional pulsating heat pipe (PHP) has been experimentally investigated for laptop cooling applications in this paper. Maximum number turns were limited to 4 due to space constraint inside the laptop. PHPs of 2 turns and 4 turns were tested for various fill ratios. The working fluids were water and ethanol with tube IDs of 0.66, 1 and 1.3 mm. The die temperature was limited to 102 °C. Out of all the varieties, 1.3 mm ID two-turn PHP showed pulsation and could dissipate heat load of 14.8 W. The die temperatures were 101 and 101.5 °C for fill ratios of 18 and 22%, respectively.
