Abstract
Pigments and additives are the essential constituents of an organic paint coating. Many functional properties such as strength, colour, UV blocking, drying ability, mechanical properties, and hydrophobic properties are improved by addition of specific pigments and additives. It has been found that size and distribution of these additives plays an important role. When compared with micro-size pigments/additives with nano, many of the properties improve tremendously. This chapter reviews the effect of nano-additives in paint coatings for these properties. It also describes the method of synthesis of a few important nano-additives and their characterization. Effect of a few nano-additives has been described on the mechanical, chemical and hydrophobic properties of organic-inorganic hybrid coatings.
