Abstract
We report one of the first experimental investigation on simultaneous mapping of whole field temperature and velocity data to demonstrate the potential of thermographic PIV (or LIP/PIV) in the context of natural convection for a back-wall heated open square cavity. As part of the validation exercise, LIP/PIV-based results are compared with corresponding numerically simulated and interferometry-based whole field data. The study holds its importance as it successfully captures the flow physics associated with the buoyancy-driven convective phenomena in the cavity at varying temperature differences using a single imaging technique instead of two separate sets of optical diagnostics.
