Abstract
In this paper, a novel design of dual polarized dipole antenna fed by Substrate Integrated Coaxial Line (SICL) is presented in Ka-band. Dual polarization is achieved using two orthogonal radiating dipole antennas. Two 45° tilted dipole antennas is devised by the top /bottom dipole arm printed on the two sides of the substrates and dipole arm in the middle layer. PIN diode is utilized in the feeding line to control the polarization of the antenna. Hence by switching the PIN diodes between dipole antennas, the dominant TEM mode of SICL is simultaneously excited in the antenna and dual linear polarization is obtained. The proposed antenna resonates at 28.1 GHz exhibiting gain of 4.9 dBi for the two polarizations and co-pol to cross-pol ratio better than 20 dB. This antenna is a suitable candidate for 5G millimeter wave applications.
