Abstract
Site-selective arene C-H functionalization has captured significant attention over the years to expand the modern synthetic tool kit. As the remarkable alteration of physicochemical can be achieved by the para-selective arene functionalization, therefore paramount focus was invested in devising suitable protocols to harness the para-selective functionalization. Various elegant approaches are known in the literature till date, which have used electronic and/or steric biasness inherently present in the substrate, non-covalent interactions, template assistance, or radical initiation in effectuating the para-C-H functionalization with precise selectivity. Although, since the invention of Friedel-Crafts reaction, electronic controlled para-functionalization has progressed tremendously, but such strategy equivocally limited to a certain class of substrates with compromised selectivity. Hence, this chapter is majorly focused in portraying recent advancements up till March 2020, on para-C-H functionalization of arenes exploiting the template assistance, steric governance and non-covalent interactions.
