Abstract
Over the past several years, the drawbacks associated with the use of various conventional extraction techniques for oleaginous materials have driven the research towards developing greener, efficient, and scalable alternatives. One such promising technique being extensively studied for the extraction of oleaginous materials is three phase partitioning (TPP). Studies on TPP have demonstrated it to be scalable, economical, and comparatively greener, thus making it both commercially feasible and desirable. The present chapter focuses exclusively on the use of TPP as an extraction technique for oleaginous materials. The chapter discusses the various advantages of TPP, the mechanism of extraction in detail, and the factors that affect TPP. Lately, researchers have also been taking interest in various techniques in combination with TPP to improve its efficiency. Such hyphenated TPP techniques have also been discussed. Lastly, the chapter sheds light on the challenges and future perspective of using TPP for the extraction of oleaginous material.
