Abstract
We report a novel universal gradient generator (UGG) for the generation of stable concentration gradients with different mathematical forms solely based on dynamic flow control. Unlike previous designs, where generation of different gradients required unique device designs, we identified ratio of the inlet flow rates (n) as the key parameter determining the gradient profile. We developed an analytical model to provide a generalized method to create gradients of various linear and non-linear functional forms with low error. In our design, we minimized errors due to lateral diffusion and back flow. Finally, we verify our analytical model through both COMSOL simulations and experiments.
