Abstract
Nowadays prestressed concrete (PC) is increasingly used in the construction of structures subjected to higher loads. Shear design of PC members is complicated and ambiguous as there is no rational, universally accepted shear design procedure. Shear design provisions of IS: 1343-2012 and other codes like ACI 318-14, AASTHO LRFD Design Specifications and EC 2 are empirical, complicated and have several limitations. A number of shear design equations for PC has also been proposed by various researchers based on different theories. In the present study, various shear transfer models of reinforced/PC members and different shear design equations used in design codes and available in literature have been briefly introduced. The degree of conservativeness of the shear design equations in different codes has been examined through a comparative analysis of the design equations using the results from a shear test database of PC beams.
